I've lost (or found) an animal. What can I do?

For a lost animal, we can check our bulletin board and flyers we have posted; for an animal you have found, we can post the information at our shelter. Please leave a message on our shelter answering machine if we're not open, 317.462.5404. Tell us as much as you can to identify the animal, when/where it was lost or found, and how to reach you if we should receive any information that might help. If you've found an animal, it can be scanned for a microchip at our shelter during our open hours, or at Greenfield-Hancock Animal Management (see below) or a local veterinarian's office. (We recommend all pets be microchipped, even if you don't intend for them to be outside.)

You are welcome to bring a flyer to hang up at our shelter. You can create a flyer at www.indylostpetalert.com to print, and through this site you can also list the pet online or share it on social media. You should also contact Greenfield-Hancock Animal Management at 317.477.4367. They are located at 809 S. State Street, Greenfield, IN 46140. You can also place a free ad with the Greenfield Daily Reporter for 3 days. Call 317.467.6000.

Once you've found your pet (or before your pet gets loose outdoors), now is a great time to make arrangements for microchipping. And if you got your pet chipped some time ago, confirm that the stored information is still up-to-date. A scanned microchip can help reunite lost pets with their owners, but only if the owner information on file is current.
